Milia, the tiny, rice-like bumps that appear around the eyes... Once they appear, they seem to keep coming back, which can be quite stressful. I, too, had several milia around my eyes before, so I did a lot of research on what caused them and how to manage them.

Seborrheic keratosis is a more common skin problem than you might think, but simply knowing how to prevent it can help reduce the risk of recurrence.

So today, I'll tell you about the causes of sebaceous cysts, how to manage and prevent them, and even how to treat them at a dermatological clinic!

1. Causes of sebaceous cysts

First, a milia is a sebaceous cyst formed when dead skin cells become trapped within the skin. They are most common around the eyes and cheeks. They are small, firm, and shaped like white or transparent grains of rice. The causes of these milia are as follows:

1) Primary sebaceous cyst

Seborrheic keratosis can occur naturally and can occur at any age.

2) Skin damage

Skin damage can also cause milia. Severe dermatitis or skin damage, such as burns, can also cause milia.

3) Frequent skin irritation

Frequent skin irritation can also cause milia. It's said that habits like daily makeup application, which irritates the skin, or frequent eye rubbing can also contribute to the development of milia.

2. Dermatological treatment/procedure for removal of sebaceous cysts

If you're concerned about the appearance of seborrheic keratosis, you can seek help from a dermatologist. Because seborrheic keratosis occurs in relatively shallow layers, it can be easily removed with a simple laser.

- CO2 laser

The CO2 laser is a laser treatment used to remove milia, skin tags, warts, and moles. It minimizes damage to surrounding skin tissue and allows for a delicate procedure. After laser treatment, the regeneration tape should be left on for 7-10 days, and it's recommended to replace it every 3-4 days.

Please note that the price for removing one Maypure sebaceous cyst is 5,000 won!

3. How to prevent and manage sebaceous cysts

Because seborrheic keratosis is common and recurrences are frequent, it's important to take steps to prevent and manage seborrheic keratosis. Here are some tips for preventing seborrheic keratosis!

1) Thorough face washing

To prevent sebaceous cysts, it is important to wash your face thoroughly to prevent dead skin cells from accumulating on your face.

👉Check out the right cleansing habits to help with skin care.

2) Moisturizing care

Additionally, since milia are more likely to develop in dry conditions, it is said that paying attention to moisturizing the skin after washing the face can help prevent milia.

👉Check out moisturizing creams available at specialized institutions

3) No skin irritation

Since frequent skin irritation can cause milia, you should avoid rubbing your eyes frequently. Also, you should not squeeze them with your hands at home as this can cause inflammation or scarring.

4. Q&A

1) What is the difference between a sebaceous cyst and a sebaceous cyst?

: Milia are superficial, well-defined lesions that occur on the skin's surface, often around the eyes or cheeks. Syringomas are deeper in the skin, usually around the eyes, cheeks, forehead, and philtrum.

2) Is it okay to squeeze sebaceous cysts with your hands?

: Be careful not to squeeze a sebaceous cyst with your hands, as this can cause the cyst to burst internally, causing inflammation or damage to the epidermis.

3) How should I care for myself after laser treatment to remove sebaceous cysts?
: It is important to apply sunscreen thoroughly as pigmentation may occur in the laser treatment area.

If you frequently get seborrheic keratosis, it seems important to check your lifestyle habits and manage them!

If necessary, it seems like a good idea to get a removal procedure done at a dermatologist.
