My skin barrier doesn't seem to be recovering well. What should I do?

My skin has become so sensitive lately that anything I apply stings, making it urgent to restore my skin barrier. I'm worried that over-exfoliating has made the damage worse. They say adequate moisturizing is essential for skin barrier restoration, but I'm also unsure which products to use. I'm also curious about any hospital procedures that can help restore the skin barrier. I hope things return to normal soon.
