I check my skin condition these days.

Hello. Every time I look in the mirror these days, I sigh. In the past, even if I drank a little alcohol or ate something greasy, I'd quickly recover after waking up. But now that I'm in my 30s, my body's signals are definitely different.

 

Lately, I've been attending a lot of gatherings, so I've been drinking a lot. And as a result, I've been eating a lot of greasy food like chicken and pizza as snacks. My skin has completely changed. It's not just the breakouts; my overall skin tone has become dull and I can see a noticeable loss of elasticity.

I thought it was just because I was tired, so I looked into it and found out that the fundamental cause of my skin damage is clear.

  1. Changes in the turnover cycle: Until your 20s, new skin grows in a cycle of approximately 28 days, but this cycle significantly lengthens from your 30s onward. Because dead skin cells don't shed in a timely manner, your complexion inevitably darkens.

  2. Alcohol and Inflammation: Drinking alcohol causes rapid dehydration, and acetaldehyde, a byproduct of alcohol breakdown, dilates blood vessels and promotes inflammation. This is the main culprit behind flushing and acne.

  3. Insulin spike: Fatty, high-carbohydrate foods rapidly raise blood sugar levels, stimulating insulin secretion. High insulin levels overactivate sebaceous glands, creating a vicious cycle that leads to rough skin and enlarged pores.

Ultimately, the things I eat and drink are eating away at my skin's "basic strength." Even though I understand it intellectually, putting it into practice is incredibly difficult. Now, I feel like cosmetics alone won't solve the problem, so I'm trying to adjust my diet and take some supplements.

 

Is there anyone who has had similar struggles and found success by changing their lifestyle or routine? I'd appreciate it if you could share even the smallest tips. I think it's time to truly manage it with a "really invested" mindset.
