The key to winter barrier management, analyzed and de-stressed by Kono
Even in the middle of winter, the wind is quite harsh. I was a bit stressed, so I went to a nearby coin karaoke bar and sang loudly for an hour. While I felt relieved, my skin already felt like it was screaming. Perhaps it was the constant movement of my mouth, blowing from the heater in a small space, that caused me to lose moisture faster than usual, to the point where I could feel it in the numbers. I've been regularly recording and analyzing my skin's condition, and I've found that focusing on "occlusive hydration" is much more effective in this kind of weather than simply moisturizing. It's easy to think that hydration is all that matters, but to prevent moisture from crystallizing and evaporating as soon as you step outside, a firm oil barrier is crucial. After washing, rather than just toning and applying a thick cream, I've noticed that mixing a drop of a very light face oil with it dramatically improves the skin barrier's ability to maintain its moisture level. Exfoliation also naturally subsides when I analytically build up the oil and moisture layer, rather than through physical stimulation. My reflection in the mirror at the karaoke room today was a little dull, but I'm confident that with this routine, my skin will be smooth again tomorrow. It's a dry afternoon for everyone, so I think it would be good to pay more attention to moisturizing.
