Is it okay to drink diet shakes after exercising on an empty stomach?

This time, I ordered a diet shake to properly manage my diet.
I usually do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach, but I'm wondering if it's nutritionally sound to replace breakfast with this diet shake right after my workout.
The diet shake I bought is supposedly high in protein. Will it keep me feeling fuller for longer if I drink it with other foods? Also, if I'm really hungry when I drink the diet shake instead of dinner, can I add nuts or something?
Actually, I've tried diet shakes before and quickly gave up, so I really want to succeed this time. If you have any recipes for delicious diet shakes or tips for not getting sick of them, please share them with me!
