It's not a huge secret, but the thing I've been focusing on the most these days is "relaxing my hands" when washing my face. In the past, I felt better after scrubbing my face thoroughly, but I've found that actually damages my skin barrier.
These days, I use cleansing foam to lather up as much as possible and gently rub my hands against my skin, making sure my palms don't touch it directly. Just by changing my cleansing habits like this, my face gets much less red after washing, and my skin texture becomes much smoother. I'm learning through daily practice that the best way to take care of your skin is to relax, even if it's a hassle.
