I actually tend to do it less when my skin isn't good.
In the past, whenever something broke out or my skin looked unwell, I would actually apply even more products. I used soothing masks, added functional ampoules, and even tried to manage exfoliation, but the result was that it only made my skin more sensitive.
So these days, the worse my skin is, the more I tend to reduce the steps in my skincare routine. It feels like I'm letting it rest rather than adding anything. I've found that if you handle your skin too excessively, it gets stressed.
On days when my skin condition is bad, I keep my cleansing routine as gentle as possible. I don't spend a long time washing my face; I finish quickly and just apply a toner and cream containing soothing ingredients. When it's really bad, I even skip the ampoule lol.
I really realized how important it is not to touch the skin, especially when breakouts occur. In the past, I kept wanting to pick at it and squeeze it, but the more I did that, the longer the marks lasted.
So these days, my personal approach is to let my skin rest when it's sensitive. Rather than being greedy and trying to fix it quickly, I feel like it actually recovers faster if I just let it sit comfortably for a few days. It's surprisingly simple, but it worked well for me.
