Maybe it's the change of seasons, but it feels like my skin barrier has completely collapsed.
Hello Maypure members! The weather has been really unpredictable lately. It's hot during the day, but chilly in the mornings and evenings, and it's quite windy—I really don't know what to do with it anymore, haha. Maybe that's why my skin has been a total mess lately. It has always been on the slightly dry side, but for the past few days, my face has felt incredibly tight after washing it, as if it's going to tear, and my redness has gotten much worse than usual. Even when I apply the same expensive skincare products I normally use, it feels like my skin is rejecting them all and just sitting on the surface. Every morning, I get so stressed because my skin looks so dull and lifeless when I look in the mirror. At first, I thought it was just dryness, so I foolishly slathered on a huge amount of moisturizer, but I later found out that this is a typical sign of a compromised skin barrier. I was completely shocked to hear that once the barrier is broken, no matter how much moisture you replenish, it evaporates quickly—it's like pouring water into a bottomless pit.
So, starting yesterday, I’ve completely revamped my routine as part of a skincare diet! First off, I switched my cleanser to a mild, pH-balanced foam cleanser and got rid of my obsessive habit of washing until my skin is squeaky clean. I’m now washing my face with lukewarm water, using minimal pressure and gently rubbing. For toner, instead of wiping it on with a cotton pad, I’m applying it in layers about three times using a "patting toner" method, pouring some into my hands and patting it in with my body heat. Just doing this has made the tightness deep inside my skin much less, haha. And most importantly, for my cream, I switched to a thick, ointment-type barrier repair cream with a high concentration of ceramides and panthenol. Before bed, I apply a thick layer to my face like a sleeping mask, and when I woke up this morning, I was relieved to see that the redness had definitely subsided a lot. Are there any others out there struggling with a compromised skin barrier like me these days? If you have any special soothing care tips or recommendations for your "holy grail" barrier creams, please feel free to share them in the comments!! Let's regain our healthy skin together, haha.
