Hair removal laser pain... Is it something even a coward can endure?

I'm planning to start shaving my armpits in preparation for summer, but does it hurt a lot? My friend said it just stings so it's bearable, but I'm already worried because I have really sensitive skin.

I'm curious if they apply some kind of anesthetic cream before the procedure. How many sessions do I usually need to get it done? I want to wear sleeveless clothes confidently this summer, so I'm planning to do it in advance.
