How many sessions is usually required to see results from melasma treatment?

I have light brown pigmentation around my cheeks, so I am looking into melasma treatment. I am wondering how many sessions are usually required to see a change.

When I search online, I find stories of improvement after just one or two treatments, as well as explanations that consistent care over a long period is required, so I'm not sure which approach to base my plan on.

I am particularly cautious because, unlike general blemishes, an unconditionally aggressive treatment approach may not be suitable for melasma.

Is it possible to confirm the effectiveness of the melasma treatment to some extent even after the first procedure?

If I am receiving melasma treatment for the first time, I would like to know if it is possible to check the skin reaction after a single session and then decide whether to proceed with the next treatment. I would also like to know if the estimated number of sessions varies significantly depending on the intensity or extent of the pigmentation.

I am curious about the general interval between treatments if melasma is repeated, and whether the interval is adjusted to be longer for people with skin that dries out easily or turns red. Rather than deciding on multiple sessions from the start, I would like to begin with a realistic goal and an estimated duration.
