The fine hair around my philtrum is dark and looks like a beard. Is laser hair removal painful? ㅠㅠ

I've been regularly shaving with an eyebrow razor, but it always cuts and irritates my skin, causing the pores on my upper lip to turn dark. It looks like tiny black dots growing out of my beard, and it's such an eyesore. It's such a hassle every morning when I have to do my makeup, so I'm looking into hair removal treatments at a dermatology clinic. Lately, everyone seems to be signing up for laser hair removal packages of 5 or 10 sessions for permanent removal. Even though my hair is thick and on the thicker side, is it possible to get rid of it cleanly? I'd like to know how often I need to visit the clinic regularly to ensure the effects last a long time. I'm also really scared and worried about whether it gets hot or stinging during the procedure. I want to ditch the razor and feel confident, so please give me some great tips and advice!
