I am curious about the relationship between acne treatment and exfoliation.

Whenever acne pops up, my skin feels like a mess, and when I see the white flakes of dead skin on my face, I just want to wipe them all off.
I feel like my skin would improve if I thoroughly exfoliated with a scrub or peeling gel as part of my acne treatment.
I've heard that you shouldn't irritate acne-prone skin, so is it correct to avoid exfoliation altogether as part of acne treatment?
Or is there a separate method to gently exfoliate using products specifically designed for acne treatment?
I am writing this post because I was a bit confused after seeing a skincare post that mentioned that even acne-prone skin needs proper exfoliation.
I'm curious to know if you happen to have acne-prone skin and have any real experiences or tips on how you exfoliate.
How do you all manage exfoliating acne-prone skin?
