Should I use a face mask the day before the shoot or not?

I'm wondering if I should use a face mask the day before the shoot because I think my makeup will apply better if my skin is hydrated.

However, I think it would be very alarming if I happened to get breakouts after using a face mask I don't usually use.

Would it be safe to just apply my usual moisturizer before going to bed? I've heard that it's best not to use new products the day before an important event. For those of you with experience with photo shoots, how did you manage your skincare the night before?
