Is it effective for treating melasma, even on faint pigmentation spread across the cheeks?

Lately, when I look around my cheeks, it feels like a blurry brownish tint is spread widely rather than distinct, small spots, so I am looking into melasma treatment.

In particular, the area extending from the inner part of my cheeks to my cheekbones looks a bit darker than other areas, so my skin tone seems uneven overall. I didn't used to mind it much when I wore makeup, but lately, if I apply a thin layer of base, this area subtly shows through.

Can I expect effective melasma treatment in this case as well? I have looked into melasma treatment and learned that the causes and procedures may differ from those for simple blemishes, so I would like to confirm this accurately first. I am also curious about the criteria used to distinguish pigmentation with blurred boundaries from melasma.

If I were to receive treatment for melasma, would a gradual approach over multiple sessions be more suitable than trying to remove it aggressively all at once?

My cheek skin tends to get dry sometimes, so I am concerned about the treatment intensity and recovery period. After checking my skin condition, I would like to be advised on the realistic changes I can expect and the recommended number of sessions.
