Is there absolutely no way to reverse the vertical enlargement of my pores on my butterfly zone?
Hello~ I've always just been lurking on the General Discussion Board, getting cosmetic tips and reviews of procedures, but lately I feel like I can't handle this on my own anymore and I'm so frustrated that I decided to jot down a question. ㅠㅠ Up until my mid-to-late 20s, my skin texture wasn't bad and my pores were definitely not on the wide side. However, since turning 20 and starting about 2-3 years ago, I've noticed the pores in the so-called "butterfly zone" next to my nose visibly stretching vertically and getting bigger. Every time I look in the mirror under the bright bathroom light, I see tiny holes all over them, and it really stresses me out and lowers my self-esteem every time I see it. ㅠㅠ
At first, I just thought my pores had temporarily widened due to blackheads caused by a buildup of sebum on my nose. So, I diligently used peel-off nose strips and squeezed out plenty of cleansing oil every day to forcibly extract the sebum by rolling my fingers over my face. However, later, while watching dermatologist YouTube videos, I learned that this wasn't simply a sebum issue, but rather a typical case of "aging-related pores"—pores that sag vertically as the collagen elasticity in the dermis layer decreases with age. No wonder the pore openings felt like they were getting bigger instead of shrinking, leaving empty spaces that sagged, even after I squeezed out the sebum. It really is true that ignorance is bliss; I was actually ruining my perfectly good skin myself.
After painfully realizing that the cause was loss of elasticity, I even ordered a retinol cream online that claims to be a surefire cure for pores, enduring the stinging sensation to apply it. I've also been consistently using collagen ampoules morning and evening, but honestly, I feel like applying cosmetics is more of a preventative measure than a solution; there seems to be a clear limit to how effectively they can tighten pores that have already stretched out. Filling in the holes with primer every morning after spending so much time on my makeup is only bearable once or twice. But by the afternoon, when oil starts to rise and foundation clumps up and gets stuck in my pores, I feel so depressed that I want to smash every mirror.
There are tons of comments in online communities saying that the only solution for enlarged pores is to spend money on consistent dermatological treatments. However, with so many different types of lasers and skin boosters available, I have absolutely no idea what I should get for a case like mine. I gave up on Fraxel early on because I got scared after seeing so many reviews saying it thins the skin, causes long-lasting redness, and is extremely painful. I've heard that collagen injections like Potenza Pumping Tip or Juvelook are good for pores these days; have any members actually undergone these treatments for vertical pores in the butterfly zone? I'm seriously curious if the pain and downtime are manageable. Please, I really need some advice!
