As you get older, it seems like oily skin can turn into dry skin.
I often get flustered because my skin condition is so different from before. I used to have extremely oily skin to the point where I had to live with oil blotting papers, but as I got older, the oiliness decreased, and lately, my skin actually feels tight.
I always thought oily skin would wrinkle less and never feel dry as I aged, so I find it fascinating that my skin type can change so completely, but at the same time, I'm worried. I used to only look for matte foundations, but lately, applying them causes dead skin cells to flake and my makeup to crack, so I'm debating whether I need to switch everything from my skincare routine to my base products. I looked it up, and apparently, it's quite common for skin to shift from oily to dry as we age because moisture and collagen decrease, and sebum production itself declines. However, I've focused solely on oil control my entire life, so this change feels so daunting. Are there others out there whose shiny skin has turned dry as they've gotten older, just like me?
How should I change my basic skincare routine when my skin type has changed like this?
