Before checking the effectiveness of melasma treatment, should I distinguish it from blemishes?

I am wondering how to distinguish between melasma and regular blemishes if small brown spots appear around my cheeks.

Some areas look like small dots, while others are lighter and spread out, so the causes might be different. I've seen a lot of talk online about how the appropriate laser varies depending on the type of pigmentation, so I'm a bit worried about getting the procedure done without knowing my exact condition.

In this case, would it be advisable to get a consultation for melasma treatment first? I am also curious if the effectiveness of melasma treatment varies significantly depending on the actual type of pigmentation. In particular, I would like to know if managing non-melasma pigmentation in the same way might not yield the desired results.

I would like to know if, during the initial consultation, you determine which treatment is suitable after assessing my skin condition and pigmentation characteristics. If the area does not require melasma treatment, could I be recommended alternative methods?

Rather than blindly undergoing a specific procedure, I would like to determine the direction of care after accurately understanding the condition of the pigmentation on my cheek skin.
