I started laser hair removal on my calves for the summer. I'm leaving a review about the features of laser hair removal. Maypure Gimpo Janggi Branch.
📌 1. Visited Branch: "Maypure Gimpo Janggi Branch"
Hi everyone! How are you all preparing for the upcoming season? Haha. I have naturally thick and loose hair, so the stress from it is no joke all year round. In winter, it’s okay to leave it alone because I bundle up in thick clothes, but as soon as the weather gets even a little warmer and I want to wear shorts or skirts, the thick black hair growing on my legs becomes such a bother. I used to shave and pluck every time I showered at home, but it severely irritated my skin, causing me to get folliculitis very frequently and even developing hyperpigmentation, which really upset me. Seeing my leg skin getting rougher and rougher like an orange peel, I decided I couldn't go on like this. So, I finally made the big decision to start laser hair removal, which is said to destroy the root cause of hair growth! I signed up for a package at the Maypure Gimpo Janggi branch near my house and had my first treatment a few days ago, and it went great!
One of the most important things to keep in mind before visiting the dermatologist is that you must shave the hair on the affected area cleanly the day before or on the morning of the procedure! I heard that if the hair is too long, the laser energy won't reach the follicles properly; instead, it will only burn the outer layer, increasing the risk of burns and making the pain much more severe. So, I also shaved my calves very meticulously and carefully the night before I went. When the doctor applied the laser, I did feel a slight stinging sensation and a burning pain like rubber bands snapping against my skin, since my hair is naturally quite thick and dark. However, the laser hair removal machine itself continuously emits cold cooling air, which significantly helps reduce the pain. The doctor was very skilled, so it was a huge relief that they finished thoroughly on both calves in about 10 minutes.
Immediately after the procedure, the skin around the hair follicles was slightly red and raised, looking like a mosquito bite. However, the doctor reassured me that this is a very natural characteristic that occurs as the follicles are destroyed after laser hair removal. They applied a thin layer of ointment and soothed the skin with a cooling sensation, so by the time I got home, the redness had almost completely subsided and my legs looked perfectly fine. Since this is only my first session, I can't expect the miracle of hair never growing back, but they say that laser hair removal usually requires at least 5 sessions at 4-5-week intervals, aligned with the hair growth cycle, to see a definite effect of thinning and reducing hair density. So, I plan to diligently check in for sessions to get smooth legs. Just the thought of not having to wrestle with a razor every day makes me so happy already! I highly recommend that anyone whose skin is damaged by frequent shaving start laser hair removal before it's too late!
