I'm considering getting lip fillers for the first time. Is it possible to get a natural look?

Having thin lips has been a bit of a complex for a while, but lately, doing lip makeup has made me even more self-conscious about it. I look fine from the front, but when I take side profile photos, my lips look almost non-existent, which is often disappointing. So I'm looking into getting lip fillers, but my biggest concern is that it will look too obvious. When I look at Instagram or before-and-after photos, the lips look plump and pretty, but I don't want it to look like I've had fillers; I just want a natural look, like someone with naturally pretty lips. I'm wondering if the results vary significantly depending on the amount injected and the design. I'd also like to know if it's possible to start with a small amount and add more later if needed. I've heard a lot about the swelling being quite severe after fillers, so I'm curious how many days it usually takes for the results to look natural. I'm also concerned about whether it's safest to get the procedure done a few days before an important appointment or photo shoot. For those of you who have had lip fillers, how did you describe the shape you wanted during the consultation? I'm curious if simply showing a photo is the best approach, or if it's better to get recommendations from the clinic based on your face shape and lip shape.
