I'm in my 30s and thinking about treatment for hyperpigmentation and melasma on my cheekbones. Please let me know the recommended number of sessions.
Hello everyone. How are you all coping with managing this persistent facial pigmentation? ㅠㅠ I've always had light freckles scattered across my skin, but after turning 30, dark spots started spreading widely and deeply around my cheekbones and under my eyes. At first, I thought they were just temporary breakout marks or just from fatigue, so I left them alone. However, as time went on, the color got progressively darker, and now it has reached a serious level where even slathering on concealer doesn't cover them all. I looked it up on beauty YouTube and found out this is a typical symptom of stubborn pigmented lesions, which completely freaked me out. Haha. I've tried applying expensive whitening creams and consistently using vitamin ampoules at home, but pigmentation already deeply embedded in the skin absolutely won't fade with these cheap home care products. ㅠㅠ I decided I couldn't go on with the stress of going barefaced like this anymore, so I'm looking into laser treatments at a dermatology clinic. However, since there are so many complex and diverse types of melasma treatments, I'm really struggling to decide which one to get.
Looking at reviews from experts in the community, it seems most people use devices like Pico lasers or toning primarily for melasma treatment. I've heard that doing it half-heartedly once or twice won't even erase the traces, and that you need to receive treatments very consistently and with patience over a long period. Since I have to squeeze in time to visit the dermatologist while working a full-time job, realistically, how often and how many times I need to visit the clinic is my most pressing question. I'm asking those with experience about the average number of sessions doctors recommend when starting melasma treatment at Maypure! Some people say their complexion brightened significantly after signing up for a 10-session package and visiting diligently every week, while others say you need at least 20 sessions—the recommended number for perfect melasma treatment—to feel the pigmentation gradually fading. It's confusing, haha. I know the recommended number of sessions will vary widely since everyone's skin thickness and pigment depth are different, but I feel like I need to know at least a rough guideline before going for a consultation so I can set a budget and mentally prepare for the process.
Also, I’ve heard that for complex pigmentation—a mix of blemishes in the shallow epidermal layer and melasma in the deep dermal layer—using a combination of various laser wavelengths provides a better synergistic effect for treatment than just blasting with a single toning treatment. Is that true? ㅠㅠ I’ve heard quite a few people have experienced side effects where they tried to treat their melasma too aggressively with high energy levels, only to have the pigmentation get much darker or the skin become patchy and white. Since I’m a bit of a wimp, I want to start laser treatment in a safe direction that is very mild and allows for gradual improvement. Haha. If there are any seniors who have consistently received the melasma treatment package at Maypure and seen great results, I would be overwhelmingly grateful if you could leave lots of tips in the comments regarding approximate treatment combinations or recommended sessions! I’m going to book an appointment right away at a branch that’s convenient for me to stop by on my way home from work for a consultation soon. I hope everyone gets flawless, glowing skin!
