I have a lot of hair on my calves; is the laser hair removal really effective?

Now that the weather is getting warmer and I'm planning to wear shorts, the hairs on my calves that look like pencil leads are really bothering me ㅠㅠ. I've been shaving them with a razor every day at home, but it's cutting my skin and I feel like my pores are getting wider, so I've finally decided to bite the bullet and go to a dermatologist for some treatment lol.
