Is it possible for the pigmentation to actually get darker after getting laser treatment for melasma and blemishes? I'm too scared to do it.
Lately, it seems like light blemishes and pigmentation on my cheeks are increasing, so I'm considering getting laser treatment. However, the more reviews I read, the more scared I get. At first, I thought my skin would clear up after just one or two sessions, but I read that different lasers are used depending on the type of pigmentation, and that if done incorrectly, it could actually lead to hyperpigmentation. I'm not exactly sure if I have melasma or blemishes, but perhaps because I get a lot of sun exposure, the area around my cheekbones looks dull overall with some darker spots here and there. Concealer covers it up to some extent, but it bothers me constantly when I'm barefaced. I've seen equipment at dermatology clinics that takes photos and diagnoses; I'm wondering if it's advisable to undergo such tests before deciding on the type of treatment. Also, I've heard that it's better to have multiple low-intensity laser sessions rather than one high one; I'd like to know which method actually carries the lowest risk of side effects. Because of my job, I'm concerned about scabs forming for a long time or severe redness persisting after the procedure. I'm wondering if there are pigment lasers available that I can receive without significantly interfering with my daily life. For those of you who have received laser treatments for melasma and blemishes, please let me know what questions you made sure to ask during the initial consultation, and if there were any particularly important aspects of post-procedure care!
