How do you care for your skin after extracting acne?

My skin always tends to stay red for a long time after extractions, so I'm curious how everyone else manages their aftercare. I'm confused whether just applying a regenerating cream is enough or if cold compresses are better. I once touched it unnecessarily and ended up with hyperpigmentation, so I want to take proper care of it this time.
