I'm wondering if hair loss treatments are effective for alopecia areata.

I must have been really stressed lately because I was shocked while washing my hair.
At first, I thought it was just one of those days where I lose a lot of hair, but when I looked closely, it seemed like there was a round, empty spot on one side. I find myself constantly looking in the mirror, and I get self-conscious about that part showing when I tie my hair up.

I looked it up and found that alopecia areata is related to stress, so I became curious if hair loss treatments would be effective in such cases. Since I am still in my 20s, the very word "hair loss" feels so unfamiliar and scary, but now that it has actually happened, I am completely devastated. I don't think just changing my shampoo will be enough, so I am debating whether I should consult a dermatologist.

Has anyone here received hair loss treatment for alopecia areata? I'm curious if the treatment helps hair grow back, or if it needs to be done in conjunction with medication. Since this is my first time getting a treatment, I'd like to know if it's painful and how many sessions are needed to see results. I suppose it's best to go before it's too late, right? Please share your experiences if you have any.
