Which melasma removal procedure is the least painful?

Seeing my melasma increasing day by day, I've been thinking that I should get laser treatment, but I'm particularly sensitive to pain and very scared, so I can't bring myself to cross the threshold of the hospital.
The part I want to address most urgently is the freckles on my cheekbones.
What kind of procedure would allow me to see some results while being less painful?
Sometimes I see photos where the face looks completely flipped out, and those kinds of photos are really scary.
Are all procedures performed with local anesthesia or anesthetic cream applied?
It would be helpful if you could tell me which treatment is good for melasma and how painful it is on a scale of 1 to 10.
