How do you distinguish between melasma and blemishes? I'm also curious if the types of lasers are different.

Lately, there are areas on my cheeks that look darker, so I am looking into dermatological treatments.
At first, I just thought they were blemishes, but after looking it up, I found out that the management methods for melasma and regular blemishes can be different.
In my case, I see some dark spots on my cheeks, but I am not sure exactly what kind of pigment it is.
That bothers me even when I apply makeup, so I want to manage my skin tone to be a little more even.
I saw that Maypure offers Pico Toning and blemish laser treatments. What criteria are used to choose between the two procedures?
I am curious because I have heard that if you have melasma, you need to be more careful when choosing the type or intensity of the laser.
Also, if there are various types of pigmentation mixed together, I would like to know if it is managed with a single laser or if different methods are used for each area.
I have to go to work every day, so I think it would be burdensome if the scabbing or redness lasted for a long time after the procedure.
I would also like to know how to check my skin condition before getting a laser treatment, and what precautions I should take regarding UV protection and pigmentation management after the procedure.
What should I check first when getting an initial consultation?
