Has anyone experienced any treatments or management methods that helped with old freckles?

Now that I'm getting older and in my mid-50s, I feel like the freckles are getting darker all over my face. I don't even want to take pictures of them, because I wonder if they're spreading or getting bigger.

I gave up on whitening cosmetics and home care products a long time ago, and these days, every time I look in the mirror, I feel depressed.

So, I've been seriously considering laser treatment lately. As I get older, the recovery time and pain can't be ignored, so I'm looking for a method that's both effective and less burdensome.
