By any chance, how do you manage the side effects of getting gel nails for a long time, where your nails become paper-thin and tear?

For the past few months, I've been getting gel nails non-stop just to cheer myself up. However, when I had them soak-off two days ago and looked at my bare nails, the surface was all scratched white and the thickness had become almost paper-thin. They started bending and tearing whenever I applied pressure to my fingertips. It's so stressful because my nail beds sting and throb just from water touching them. Should I just endure this by applying over-the-counter nail strengtheners (like keratin) until they grow out? Or do I need to go to a dermatologist or a professional nail salon to get absorbent nourishing care to make them stronger quickly? I'm not sure, so I'm asking for advice. Please, anyone who has successfully regenerated their nails, share some tips in the comments.
